Iron deposit, formed by a reef of barite and hematite as minerals more abundant, and calcite, aragonite, gypsum, magnesite, jarosite, amarantite, arsenopyrite, conicalcite, scorodite, metaheinrichite, sklodowskite, natrouranospinite, quartz, and others (analyses pending), as species occurring in minor amounts.

The Baños de Sierra Alhamilla, belongs to the Pechina term, province of Almeria. Locating a large number of mines around it, in which the iron was used to transport it, along with other nearby places by cable and railroad, to a station that was below Los Baños and from here by rail to Almeria.

It was one of the most important mines in the area of ​​Baños de Sierra Alhamilla, with a railroad from the mine at its lower exit to the hopper located in the baths, where it joined with the rest of the ore extracted in the neighboring concessions.

Access to the mine is done from Los Baños, along the road that goes up the mountain to the hopper and from there, follow the railroad track. Since the bocamina where they removed the material is blinded it is necessary to follow upwards looking for the mouth that is in a small ravine, although it can be acceded by two entrances that are above, one of them in the crossing of the ravine with the road.

The iron mineral, motive of the exploitation, is composed of oxides of this element (hematite / goethite), in some points are seen remains of what was siderite.



Mina "El Descuido" Barranco Hondo, Sierra Alhamilla, Pechina (Almería)

Coordenadas WGS84:  36º 57' 54'' N - 2º 23' 22'' W

Yacimiento de hierro, formado por un filón de hematites con barita como minerales mas abundantes y calcita, aragonito, yeso, magnesita, jarosita, amarantita, arsenopirita, conicalcita, escorodita, metaheinrichita, sklodowskita, natrouranoespinita, cuarzo, otros pendientes de analizar, como especies minoritarias.

Los Baños de Sierra Alhamilla, pertenece al término de Pechina, provincia de Almería. Localizándose un número elevado de minas a su alrededor, en las que se explotaba el hierro que lo trasladaban, junto al procedente de otros lugares cercanos por cable y ferrocarril, hasta una estación que había debajo de Los Baños y de aquí en ferrocarril hasta Almería.

Fué una de las minas mas importantes de la zona de los Baños de Sierra Alhamilla, contando con un ferrocarril desde la mina en su salida inferior hasta la tolva situada en los baños, donde se unía al resto del mineral extraido en las concesiones vecinas.

El acceso a la mina se hace desde los Baños, por el camino que sube a la sierra hasta la tolva y desde ahí, seguir el carril del ferrocarril. Dado que la bocamina por donde sacaban el material está cegada hay que seguir mas arriba buscando la boca que hay en un pequeño barranco, aunque se puede acceder por dos entradas que hay mas arriba, una de ellas en el cruce del barranco con el camino.

El mineral de hierro, motivo de la explotación, está compuesto de óxidos de este elemento (hematites/goethita), en algunos puntos se ven restos de lo que fue siderita.
