The Lord Henry deposit was discovered in 2004 by Troy Resources NL. Mining commenced early 2006 developing a small open pit. The now abandoned open pit is 20 kilometres south-east of Sandstone, and 500 metres north of the Sandstone-Menzies Road. The Lord Nelson mine is 3 kilometres to the north. The mine closed in September 2010.
The ore is hosted within a granodiorite body bounded to the south and west by a sheared ultramafic contact forming part of the Trafalgar Shear. Mineralisation forms a series of stacked 20 to 30 degree north dipping lodes consisting of quartz-sericite-chlorite-pyrite alteration within the granodiorite body. The deposit is covered by a thin veneer of cover, also containing gold. The lode trends north-east for 400 metres, although another part of the source states east-west, and high grade gold is found associated with sulphide rich quartz veins.
Most gold is found in fresh rock, whereas nearby Lord Nelson gold is found in an oxide zone. At Lord Henry gold is found predominantly in quartz veining. Wall rock alteration is strong, but with less than 2% sulphides in this area. The oxide zone is mainly goethite.
The deposit shows several types of quartz veining. The assemblage has been formed at a lower temperature than Lord Nelson, and consists of sericite-chlorite alteration, with a strong arsenic and base metal signal.
The ore zone, shows arrays of quartz-carbonate veins, and auriferous quartz-carbonate-chlorite-pyrite-galena veins, with accessory arsenopyrite, sphalerite and chalcopyrite. Gold is found chiefly associated with pyrite. These quartz veins have well defined sericite haloes, overprinted by chlorite-carbonate-pyrite alteration.
