Like the other gold mines in this section, the Castle Hill Group is part of the Kunanalling Shear, at its northern end around the former 1890's location of Kintore at the intersection with the Jaurdi Hills Road, and Coolgardie North Road. It is about 50 kilometres north of Coolgardie. Small historic workings are generally west of the road and close to it, with a couple of minor pits at the southern margin. Described by the most recent exploration company as a 3 kilometre long gold corridor, although the total number of locations covers about a 9 kilometre strike from Wadi in the south to Picante in the north. Most locations are old 1890's workings, with a few recently discovered prospects.
The Castle Hill Group is at the southern apex of the Kintore Tonalite, which provides a focus for the fracturing of rocks for gold mineralising fluids. The area hosts varying styles of gold mineralisation, from narrow high grade gold lodes (Kiora), high grade gold bearing quartz vein systems (Outridge), to broader low grade quartz stockwork porphyry (Mick Adam). Gold locations have also formed along the eastern margin of the Kintore Tonalite (Picante).
Gold in the tonalite are high grade lodes with low grade haloes, with high grade lodes hosted in adjacent basalt. The tonalite narrows in the south as an elongated tail, consisting of a number of dykes. The whole Castle Hill Group has a JORC complaint estimated resource of 81 Mt @ 0.94 g/t yielding almost 2.5 million ounces of gold.
