The Kiora Gold Mine was active in the late 1890's, producing to 1900, 101.5 tonnes of ore yielding 265 ounces (GML 405S). This source was found from 1915, which states the mine had been abandoned between 1900 to 1915.
No further information was found until 1934. In this year, the Sydney based United Westralian Gold NL was formed to take over options on the Nordenfeldt, Kiora, and neighbouring Gouldbourn leases with 40 000 pounds capital. To this point the Kiora mine had produced 500 tonnes of ore at 15 dwt, and 150 tonnes yielding 700 ounces of gold, according to this source. The Kiora was part of what was then called the London Group of leases, some 5 kilometres south of the Jaurdi Hills and Coolgardie North Roads intersection, and bordering the Coolgardie North Road on the west.
The Kiora property at this stage contained 4 shafts over a 1000 feet strike length, with 3 of the shafts down to 120 feet, and the main shaft to 163 feet. Their intention was to install a 5 head mill, and later in 1937 a cyanide plant was erected to treat the sands produced.
Mining at this stage appeared to be on the back burner. The shaft was down to 249 feet, and development work is noted. By 1941, the mine was being operated by prospectors, taking out parcels averaging 8dwt. Several other parties were on the Kiora line of lode.
Some near surface ore was mined from a small open pit by the Amalg Syndicate in 1994. This produced 32 000 tonnes of ore at 4.7 g/t yielding 4950 ounces of gold.
