A small aggregate quarry and concrete manufacturer. Quarry works a Late Proterozoic, layered, granitic orthogneiss with calc-silicate, biotite-rich and amphibolite lenses. The gneiss is part of the Laurentian basement terrane exposed in the southern end of the Berkshire Highlands.
Cross-cutting hydrothermal veins to approximately 7cm thick contain quartz crystals with chlorite inclusions. The crystals can sometimes be very clear and quite aesthetic.
Calc-silicate lenses contain small pods of massive pink or purple scapolite and large, well formed blades of actinolite.
Several samples of salmon-colored microcline-rich granite gneiss recovered bordering the quartz veins have numerous small grains of unknown minerals. These may be allanite and zircon var. cyrtolite. The granite gneiss appears to be moderately altered by hydrothermal activity. More detailed analysis is needed.
