A skarn deposit with spectacular micro gold crystals south east of Harrison Hot Springs.

Harrison gold mine was mined between 1972 and 1982 and has since seen sporadic exploration work (B.C. Minfile 2005). Exploration is currently active at the site.
Gold mineralization in this deposit occurs mainly as blebs to 2 mm within quartz veins, which are confined to quartz-diorite intrusive bodies or their immediate periphery. The gold is commonly associated with bismuth-lead tellurides. Other associated minerals include pyrrhotite, pyrite, rutile (as delicate reticulated masses), axinite, chlorite, actinolite, albite, arsenopyrite, chabazite, stilbite, muscovite, and titanite.

The gold crystals, to 1 mm, are found in quartz crystal lined vugs, many of which are calcite-filled. They vary from sharp, lustrous simple octahedra to complex crystals exhibiting numerous forms, to nearly perfect spheres. Interestingly, a single vug may contain two or three crystals, each with widely different habits.

Description: Rucklidgeite has been observed in polished section, but most Rucklidgeite that has been tested turned out as Tellurobismuthite. Over a hundred single crystals probed at the British museum showed a host of these different minerals, all visually indistinguishable, but without SCXRD the identities are tentative. Initially it was thought that the presence of Pb nailed rucklidgeite, but that is not true. Both EMPA and SCXRD are needed to nail these minerals. Most specimens obtained with a rucklidgeite label are not rucklidgeite.

Description: Over a hundred visually identical xls were probed at BMNH and showed a host of related species, but without SCXRD the identifications are tentative. Across the basal plane there is little variation in the probed chemistry but perpendicular to the basal plane the was some variation in probed chemistry.
