Eisengruben am Kolbenberg, Nothweiler, Verbandsgemeinde Dahner Felsenland, Landkreis Südwestpfalz, Rheinland-Pfalz, Deutschland
Triassic sandstones hosting iron bearing veins with very minor lead and zinc mineralization. The Nothweiler vein system has a lengths of about 12km extending from Erlenbach in Palatinate into northern Alsace where Pb and Zn ores were more abundant in the old mines of Katzenthal forest (see: Katzenthal forest, Lembach, Bas-Rhin, Alsace, France).
Mining activities date back into 16th century and ended 1883. The ore was processed in the nearby village Schönau. Since 1978 the Anna-Stollen mine has been reopened as a visitor mine.
Note: All the Pb, Zn, Cu and Ag minerals described by Heidtke and Schnorrer-Köhler (1986) were from a single find made in Katzenthal forest in Alsace and not from Nothweiler on the Palatinate side of the vein system.
