Metasedimentary manganese ore; mine now closed.
The Kamisukai mine is located in Kamisukai, Ozu City, Ehime Prefecture, on the west bank of the Hijikawa River, which flows through western Shikoku. Approximately 6,000 tons of manganese ore has been extracted from the mine since around 1950. The area is composed of greenschist and pelitic schist from the Sanbagawa belt, which form complex geological structures such as pile nappe structures and fold structures.
