Mine de Mont-Roc (Montroc)
A huge fluorite vein (900 m in length, 15 m in width) with many small parallel veins, hosted in Cambrian black schists. It is the western part of a long structure including the Moulinal Mine.
This vein was mined during antiquity (for copper and iron) but was only rediscovered in 1945. It was operated (for fluorite) from 1964 until 2005, first underground, then in a large quarry from 1980. During the operation, 1,260,000 tons of fluorite were worked out!
The mine was owned by SOGEREM (a subsidiary company of Pechiney, now Alcan), as well as Le Burc and Le Moulinal. The three closed in 2005.
