Structure: Laramide faulting; Dean Mine fault Roberts Mountains Thrust at depth
Alteration: sericitic, pyritic, propylitic
Commodity: Ore Materials: free gold, galena, sphalerite, pyrite, arsenopyrite, chalcopyrite Gangue Materials: quartz, calcite, barite
Deposit: The mineralization occurs in three veins: the Cumberland, the Morning Star and the Pittsburg.
Deposit type: Distal disseminated Ag-Au
Development: The history of the Dean Mine parallels that of the adjacent Hilltop District whose mines follow the same veins. The mine has been developed by numerous adits, shafts and other workings since the 1890s. Lessee C. B. Lancaster was mining ore here in 1938. In 1994, St. George Metals did exploration and development drifting at the Dean mine and stoping to mine about 5,000 tons of high-grade ore that had been blocked out earlier. The vein segment mined was 3 to 3.5 feet wide and 165 feet long with a 52? dip. The vein averaged in excess of 1 ounce of gold per ton . In 1995, Idaho Consolidated Metals Corp. optioned the Dean Mine and mill site and intended to establish sufficient high-grade reserves to justify the construction of a facility utilizing the Swisher-bromine hydrometallurgical process for refractory sulfide ores. In 2004, St. George held the reclamation permit for the Dean Mine.
Geology: Silver is subordinate to gold in the ore.
Ore(s): fractures, shears
