Na-(Mg,Fe)-margarite

A variety of Margarite
This page is currently not sponsored. Click here to sponsor this page.
Formula:
(Ca,Na)(Al,Mg,Fe)2(Al2Si2O10)(OH)2
A variety of the mica margarite described by Godard and Smith (1999) as "being a solid solution between margarite and a hypothetical 2.5-octahedral end-member with the ideal formula of Na21(Mg,Fe)1Al4IV[Si4Al4IV]O20(OH)4. This last composition can be considered as the (Mg, Fe) equivalent of the trioctahedral Li-mica ephesite Na2Li2Al4IV[Si4Al4IV]O20(OH)4".

Found as retrogression products in coronae or symplectitites around kyanite in eclogites.
