UM1987-05-OH:AlCMg

This page is currently not sponsored. Click here to sponsor this page.
Formula:
Mg4Al2(OH)12(CO3,SO4) · 3H2O
more specifically [Mg4Al2(OH)12][(SO4)0.5(CO3)0.5•3H2O]
Specific Gravity:
2.06 (Calculated)
Compare the stoichiometrically identical (or similar) quintinite and 'quintinite-3T'. Also compare UM1996-25-OH:AlCMg.

The phase represents an ordered ABAB-type alternation (16.5-Å-ordered phase) of 7.56 Å and 8.94 Å layers; the sulfate anion is located in the interlayers. The first layer is brucite-like, while the second contains the carbonate groups.

Exact localities not stated. The phase (together with other potentially new minerals of the supergroup) was found within salt deposits of (1) the Middle Asia, and within (2) Lower Permian rocks of the pre-Caspian depression. Other associated minerals include quartz, chalcedony, chlorite group, biotite, "oxylepidomelane", zircon, garnet group, titanite, anhydrite, kieserite, langbeinite, and various borates at "1"; quartz, chalcedony, anhydrite, magnesite, Mg-rich chlorite group, and illite at "2".
