Name:
Named after Prof. Dr. Gregor Markl,born February 22nd, 1971 in Frankfurt a.M., Germany,mineralogist at the University of Tübingen, Germany, who found the type specimen of marklite, for his numerous studies and books on crustal petrology, geochemistry and specifically on the hydrothermal ore deposits of the Black Forest area (genesis, oxidative alteration, mineralogy and geochemistry).
New structure type.

Visually similar to devilline and serpierite.

Chemically similar to georgeite; also to claraite (Zn-bearing) and 'cuproartinite' (Mg-bearing); and to azurite and malachite (basic but without water molecules).
