Name:
Named in honor of Vladimir Sergeevich Znamensky (Владимир Сергеевич Знаменский) (1939–2002), Russian geologist at IGEM who studied the geology and mineral deposits of the Kurile Islands. He was among first to conduct mineralogical research at the Kurdiavy volcano.

Type Occurrence of Znamenskyite
General Appearance of Type Material:
Druse-like aggregates of elongated slender plates to 0.4 mm long and 0.05 mm across, usually striated along elongation and easily split to needles. Box-shaped skeletal crystals are also ommon.
Place of Conservation of Type Material:
Type material is deposited in the collections of the Fersman Mineralogical Museum of the Russian Academy of Science, Moscow, Russia, registration number 4558/1

High temperature fumarole 600–700 degrees C
