Franconia is a town, incorporated in 1772.

The danaite variety of arsenopyrite (cobalt-bearing arsenopyrite) was first described from a site in the town of Franconia - either the Copper Mine Brook Mine or the Peckett Mine. Which of these two sites is the actual type locality is uncertain, as records only indicate "Franconia." But it should be recognized that it is a locality in Franconia which is the type locality, not the town itself.
