A former lode Au-Ag occurrence/mine located in secs. 21, 27, in the N½N½ sec. 28, & in sec. 33, T15N, R11E, SBM, about 6.6 km NNE of Kessler Peak (3.5 miles S of Kokoweef Peak), on patented (private lease) land within federal reservation land (Mojave National Preserve/East Mojave National Scenic Area). The property is comprised of 12 claims. Owned & operated by Vanderbuilt Gold Corporation (100%), Nevada (1973-1997). First produced in 1987. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters. Explored mainly in the late 1920's and in the 1930's.
Mineralization is a deposit (Mineral occurrence model information: Model code: 129; USGS model code: 40a; Deposit model name: Detachment-fault-related polymetallic Cu-Au-Ag-Pb-Zn deposits), hosted in granite. The ore body strikes N,E and dips 34W at a thickness of 53.34 meters. Veinlets occur along a fractured contact zone. Auriferous pyrite is mineralized up to a thickness of 175 feet. The vein lies in finer-grained (rhyolite ?) intrusive dike, that is up to 350 feet thick. Mineralization occurs principally along sets of E-W and N-S-trending fractures in the dike. The better grade ore is found in N-trending fractures hosted in coarse-grained granitic rock and finer-grained, darker granitic rock. Local rocks include Quaternary alluvium and marine deposits. The heap leaching operation was placed on stand-by in 1990.
Older workings included a N-trending, 600 foot adit, joined to winzes, crosscuts and drifts totaling 1,700 feet. Diamond drilling was also carried out. Modern workings include surface openings comprised of an open pit. A leach plant was installed. Milling method hydrometallurgy unspecified. There are no tailings. All material remains on lined leach pads.

Production statistics: Year: 1989: 20,000 ounces (622,070 grams) Au. Produced 18,600 ounces Au in 1989 from treating 660,000 metric tons of ore. No other production records were found.
Analytical data results: Values vary from $2-$15 (period values)/ton Au, with the average being $4-$6 (period values)/ton. 25% is in fine gold.
