After FS road 5510 turns to the west, crosses the drainage creek from Scout Lake, and begins to traverse the northern flank of Scout Patrol Peak, a micromineral locality occurs at 3200' elevation on a series of roadcuts with vistas of the entire Hansen Creek drainage. Optical needle quartz crystals to 1cm are abundant in vugs to 15cm. Pyrite and fluorapatite are occasionally found in the open-air vugs. The chlorite, muscovite, and titanium minerals must be etched out of calcite, mostly found at the more western of the two cuts.

Higher on Scout Patrol Peak, in its northeastern bowl at 4000' elevation, is the "Butterfly" locality - here, quartz crystals up to 12cm occur in a highly altered breccia. All other minerals occur as inclusions in quartz. This locality is known for producing Japan-law twins and quartz crystals with inclusions of chlorite (green balls) and pyrite (glittery pyritohedra).
