Alkaline igneous rock-hosted gold deposit.

Local geological units of the Zhongshangou mainly include the Devonian Shuiquangou intrusive complex and the Archean Sanggan Group. The Shuiquangou complex in the mining area mainly consists of hornblende monzogranite, pyroxene diorite, and syenite. Mineralization at Zhongshangou was strictly fault-controlled. Ore veins of the deposit mainly developed within the Shuiquangou alkaline complex. At present, more than 40 parallel ore-bearing veins have been identified, and two of them have been confirmed to be of economic significance. Vein No. 1 contains three orebodies, with the maximum ore grade of approximately 50 g/t Au. Vein No. 2, with a gold grade of > 1.6 g/t and a tellurium grade of > 0.5 g/t, is located to the east of Vein No. 1. Individual ore bodies from the two veins generally have a length of < 300 m and a thickness of < 3 m. Three ore types are identified by our and previous researches: the potassic alteration-type ores, auriferous quartz vein-type ores, and breccia-type ores. Three stages of ore deposition: (1) Pre-ore stage. This stage represents an initial potassium stage in which K-feldspar, magnetite, specularite, pyrite, and milky quartz are developed. Pyrite grains are generally coarse and euhedral to subhedral in shape. (2) Main-ore stage. This stage contains abundant sulfides, tellurides, and visible gold. Sulfide minerals are widely developed in this stage. Au- and Te-bearing minerals, which mostly occur as fine mineral inclusions within sulfides, coexist in this stage. Tellurides from this stage are dominated by hessite, altaite, and petzite. (3) Post-ore stage. The ore-barren calcite veins are the result of later hydrothermal activities and they are not major contributors to the Au-Te mineralization.

Geochronology

Mineralization age: Middle Triassic : 241 Ma

Important note: This table is based only on rock and mineral ages recorded on mindat.org for this locality and is not necessarily a complete representation of the geochronology, but does give an indication of possible mineralization events relevant to this locality. As more age information is added this table may expand in the future. A break in the table simply indicates a lack of data entered here, not necessarily a break in the geologic sequence. Grey background entries are from different, related, localities.
