Seven lithofacies and fourteen stratigraphic sections were identified within the Lower Cambrian Hetang Formation and the uppermost Ediacaran Piyuancun Formation. The Cambrian part of this sequence includes early Cambrian shales, such as the Hetang and Guanyintang formations. The organic carbon-rich Lower Cambrian strata represent abyssal facies deposited under relatively reducing conditions on the Yangtze continental margin, showing a close relationship with the Cambrian biological radiation.
