Canyon Mine
An U occurrence/mine located 3.21 km E of route 64 and 10.16 km (6.5 miles) SSE of Tusayan, at an elevation of 1,985 meters above sea level. The property comprises 9 unpatented mining claims. This locality is not listed in the USGS MRDS database.
The site of the Canyon Mine is now included in lands withdrawn from mineral entry, subject to valid existing rights. The U.S. Forest Service commenced a formal mineral examination and positive finding of Energy Fuels valid right was confirmed and work has been allowed to proceed as presented in the Canyon Mine Plan of Operations.
Mineralization is a breccia-pipe U deposit hosted in the Hermit Formation, on National Forest land.
UPDATE 2024
The name of the mine has been changed to Pinyon Plain Mine and is operated by mining company Energy Fuels Inc. Mining for uranium commenced in January 2024, even though there is a conflict with the local Navajo Indians.
