A former underground Ag-Pb-Cu-Au-Zn mine located about ½-1 mile east of the Peck Mine (1st. Mine South from the Prince Mine). Discovered in 1874 by T.N. Alexander, W. Cole, E.G. Peck, and C.C. Bean. Later [?] rediscovered [?] and owned by Messrs. Houghteling & Curtin. Owned at times, or in part, by Messrs Smith, Buttrick & Co. Produced 1876-1976 overall. Reopened in 1910 and closed in 1915. Main production period was 1907-1940. Also owned at some time and operated by Index Mining Ltd. Also known as: Silver Prince General No. 86 Patented claim; Black Warrior MS 419 Patented claim. Claims extend into the E½SE¼SW¼ and the SE¼SE¼NE¼ of sec. 25, the N½N½N½ sec. 36, T11N, R1W, and into W½W½W½ of sec. 30, T11N, R1E.
Mineralization is a vein deposit with a tabular ore body hosted in Yavapai Schist, mostly fissile and sericitic, with lenses of quartzite. Outcrops are deeply oxidized. The vein strikes due north and dips 60ºW., with the schist. The vein is at most a few feet wide and carries dark brown, limonitic ore. Ore control was faulting and shearing. Ore concentration was oxidation and enrichment of near-surface ore. No alteration noted. An associated rock unit is rhyolite dikes.
Workings include shafts (125 feet deep), drifts and tunnels. Workings include several shafts and drifts plus a tunnel nearly 400 feet long. The shaft is 400 feet deep. Production was some $40,000 of Ag (1883)(period values), and 600,000 oz. Ag (1910-1915). Production was $480,000 of silver (1875-1908)(period values). Ore assayed at 113 oz. Ag/T.
