The complex is generally taken to be an alkaline intrusion (Rock, 1982) but almost all the constituent rocks, principally quartz syenites, microsyenites, diorites, gabbros and a broad range of dikes (including dolerites, trachytes, microdiorites, spilites, keratophyres, basalts, spessartites and pyroxenites) are neither mineralogically nor chemically peralkaline.
