Between 25 and 30 km SW of Charolles are 5 volcanic necks, with further necks occurring near Couches les Mines, c. 30 km west of Chalon sur Saône, and at St Micaud at a similar distance SSW of that town (Brousse & Nativel 1964; Bellon et al. 1974). Although c. 60 km apart, these 2 clusters are generally combined as Bourgogne and Charollais.
