The basement rocks are late Cretaceous to early Paleocene limestones and ophiolites, with the former dominant. Cutting this sequence are small stocks of foid syenite, 2 of which are also associated with carbonatites (Özgenç & Ilbeyli 2009).
Deposits containing 30000t at 52% CaF₂ and 1000t of britholite containing 57% REE oxides, 2.49% Y₂O₃ and 2.68% ThO₂ are reported by Özgenç (1999).
