On the east coast of the Bluff peninsula.

Watson (1973) describes a pegmatite at Shag Rock, and nearby collecting areas. As this is dated 1973, and the area is easily accessible, it is uncertain how much material remains. However, there are many pegmatites in the Bluff/Greenhills area.

The 5 metre wide pegmatite rises out of the ocean 400 metres north of Shag Rock, crosses the point, and sinks back into the sea on the other side. It is apparently easily identified as being a lighter colour than the surrounding norite. Another smaller pegmatite is 150 metres to the south-east, 75 metres long, and up to 50 cms wide.

Minerals found are quartz, orthoclase, microcline, biotite, muscovite, spessartine, and schorl. The feldspars are more prevalent than quartz, as creamy coloured crystals to 2 cms. Spessartine garnets range from pin point red to large well formed crystals to 15 mms across. The schorl crystals are found in bands parallel with the sides of the pegmatite. Most are single crystals up to 4 cms long and one cm thick, usually as single crystals, however radiating fans, and large clusters have been found. They are said to make attractive specimens, set against a cream coloured matrix.

A walk north up the coast towards Barracouta Point can reveal other treasures. To the north are copper coloured pyrite cubes (apparently not chalcopyrite), set in dark grey argillite, with some granular pyrrhotite. Nearby is fine grained grey marble, set in green, white, salmon, and light brown coloured diospide, making attractive slabbed specimens. Brownish-red spessartine garnets are found, sometimes with light green epidote, fans of epidote in quartz, and hornblende crystals to 12 cms long.
