Ordinary chondrite, gas-rich (H5)
Find, 1959; 3.6 kg
A single meteoritic stone was plowed up in a field, but not recognized as a meteorite until 1965. Upon inspection angular clasts, chondrules, and limonite stains are readily observed. Olivine and orthopyroxene (variety, bronzite) are indicative of the H (high iron) geochemical group of ordinary chondrites. Fe-Ni metal and troilite along with accessory chromite and copper, are the more notable opaques reported here — as well as goethite, a terrestrial weatherate. As a gas-rich meteorite, the presumption is that the meteorite material has been part of a near-surface asteroidal regolith for a significant portion of its long journey from an original homeworld to the planet earth. A cosmic ray exposure age (CRE) of 6.2 Ma has been obtained.
The main mass was acquired by the Max Planck Institute and, presumably, was transferred to the Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin when the Max Planck collection was liquidated.
