Boulders (and former outcrops?) of lazulite-bearing quartz veins, hosted by quartz-phyllites and mica schists. Boulders of tourmaline pegmatites, hosted by mica schists and andalusite-biotite schists.
The classical lazulite occurrence is located in a bend of the Freßnitzbach valley, about 500 m upstream of the place named Wegscheidkreuz at an elevation of ca. 840 m asl. The outcrop in the creek itself is not exposed (or it is exploited!) at the moment (2010), boulders with lazulite and pegmatite can be found immediately south of the creek, between two forest roads. But the area is heavily picked over and it is not easy to find good lazulite specimens today. Last visit by FB: 28. July 2010.
For locality map see "Krieglach".
