A small holiday town on the northwest coast of Gulf St. Vincent. The area has gained interest mineralogically with the discovery of kingite in some historic phosphate and ironstone workings to the north of the town.

In some historic literature, the locality and region are sometimes referred to simply as 'Clinton', this is in relation to the Hundred of Clinton, rather than the township of Port Clinton.
