Faceted and cabochon-grade ruby, blue sapphire and spinel is found in the alluvium. Star rubies of all grades, but in small sizes. At the skarn, painite and other rare gems are found. In 2006 the mine was closed. - Ted Themelis (2008) Gems and Mines of Mogok

NOTE: As of 2013, the mine was still highly active, mostly by driving adits into the nearby hill to access the primary deposits (personal observation, Schillhammer). Actually, the mine mentioned by Themelis as "Baw-lon-gyi west" does not exist any longer as the pit has been back-filled with the material mined at "Baw-lon-gyi east".
