In 2003, at the foothills of Anyant-taung, a small area was allocated for gem mining by the Myanmar government to ex-insurgent group of SSNPLO (Shan State Nationalities Peoples Liberation Organization), as part of the truce agreement signed between these parties. This area is known as SSNPLO mine. In November 2003, gem quality spinels, fewer rubies and sapphires and fibrolite were recovered from the alluvium, using small scale open-pit, lebin, letkya-dwin and loo-dwin methods.
