Stratabound skarn-type lead-zinc deposit.
Pb + Zn: ∼350,000 t; Mo: 2,000 t
The stratigraphic sequence in the Dapai deposit is dominated by carbonate rocks of the middle Carboniferous Jingshe, upper Carboniferous Chuanshan, and lower Permian Qixia formations and clastic rocks of the Wenbishan and Tongziyan formations. Magmatic rocks are poorly exposed in this area, but significant bodies are concealed at depth, comprising granodiorite porphyry and monzogranite and granodiorite (127.0 ± 1.8 Ma). A total of 34 polymetallic orebodies have been identified in the Dapai deposit. Most orebodies are hosted by Carboniferous–Permian carbonate rocks, and minor orebodies also occur in mudstone of the Wenbishan formation. The minerals generally exhibit a vertical mineralization zonation from upper Pb–Zn, middle Pb–Zn–Cu + Mo, and lower Fe + Mo. The Pb–Zn–Cu mineralization of the upper part of the Dapai deposit generally occurs at below the ground surface of 400–100 m. On the basis of mineral assemblages, alteration patterns, ore textures, and superposition or cross-cutting relationships, the mineralization of the Dapai deposit can be divided into the following seven stages: (1) bedded Pb–Zn–Cu mineralization, (2) prograde skarn, (3) retrograde skarn and Fe mineralization, (4) quartz–sulfide–sulfate formation, (5) calcite formation, (6) propylitic alteration, and (7) quartz–molybdenite mineralization.
