The lower Carboniferous Yufutun formation, composed of intermediate–basic volcanic rocks, metamorphosed tuff, and tuffaceous slate and siltstone, is developed in the mining area. The intrusions in the mining area are mainly composed of granite porphyry dikes and diorite porphyrite dikes. Both the granite porphyry dikes and gold-bearing quartz vein are controlled by NE-trending faults and have a similar occurrence and close spatial relationship. Fifteen gold orebodies containing about 2 t Au (average 1.01–52.36 g/t), 2.5 t Ag (average 15.64 g/t), and 5 t Cu (average 0.03%) have been identified in the Toudaochuan deposit. The orebodies consist mainly of irregular veined, stockwork, and lenticular-shape gold-bearing sulfide–quartz veins.
Alterations as silicification, chloritization, epidotization, sericitization, and carbonation commonly developed in orebodies and granite porphyries.
