Parish of Viana do Castelo municipality. Due to an administrative merger held in Jan 2013 a new and bigger parish was formed "União das freguesias de Nogueira, Meixedo e Vilar de Murteda".

Area with about 17 mined phosphate-bearing pegmatites.
