3 E-W lodes: Main, Great and South producing tin copper and arsenic ores. sunk on Great Lode. This is one of a series of mines that were established on lodes discovered during the digging of the Tavistock Canal Tunnel.

The grid reference marks the small dump at Matthew's Shaft, which has been sunk on Main Lode.

Description: The British Museum holds a specimen of childrenite from the collection of Sir Arthur Russell, but not collected by himself, which is said to come from this mine, but no childrenite was found in a more recent re-examination of the remaining dumps. Otherwise, reports on childrenite occurring here might be the result of a confusion with brownish scorodite (Braithwaite and Cooper, 1982).
