Relatively pure quartz was taken out for the production of ferro-silicium in the smelter in Notodden, the Tinfoss Jernverk. The Tinfoss Jernverk was closed down in 1987, and simultaneously the quarries were abandoned.
Nice micros with turquoise crystals have been found here.
