The Wolverine Mine was started as a small scale operation in 1882 and ceased in 1884. It was reoganized as the Wolverine Copper Mining Company in 1889 and work began in 1890. The mine was absorbed by the Mohawk Mining Company in 1923 and closed permanently in 1925. The mine consisted of four shafts; No. 1 was abandoned early (it missed the lode). No. 2 was used to handle men and supplies. No. 3 was bottomed at approximately 4,000 feet on the incline. No. 4 was bottomed at approximately 4,500 feet on the incline. Being that the Wolverine Mine sits between the Kearsarge Mines and worked the Kearsarge lode, it has a wealth of minerals for the collector. Some of these include copper, silver, epidote, and quartz. Recently, copper replacement agate nodules have been discovered encased within basalt on the rock piles of Wolverine No. 2.
