An iron mine opened as an open-pit operation in 1886 by the St. Clair Brothers, with underground workings initiated in 1887 by Peter Sheridan. The Sheridan Mining Company took ownership in 1889, and worked the mine through 1900, with 116,299 tons of ore shipped during this period. One shaft and four levels were developed.

The property description is SE-SE Sec. 26 T43N-R35W, which is 40 acres within the city of Iron River between N46º5'14", N46º5'27", W88º38'14", and W88º38'33".
