When consolidated in 1899 by the Oliver Iron Mining Co., the Riverton group consisted of four iron mines: The Dober, Duff, Isabella, and Riverton (formerly Iron River). The Dober, Duff, and Isabella were idled in 1933, and absorbed into the Hanna Co.'s Hiawatha No. 2 mine in 1935. The Riverton Group retained the Riverton Mine and continued operations through 1937.
The Dober, Duff, and Isabella are clustered together on the south of the town of Stambaugh, and the Riverton and Iron River are a disjoint cluster on the north of town.
