An iron mine worked from 1908 through 1930 by the Brule Mining Co. In 1944, the mine was consolidated into Pickands Mather & Co.'s Buck Group operation, which operated through 1962. By 1930, three shafts and six levels to 782 feet depth had been developed. Under the Buck Group, the no. 2 shaft was reopened and six more levels were worked to 1280 feet depth.
The Corry "40" mine to the east was operated as part of the Berkshire mine when owned by Brule Mining Co., with all ore raised through a Berkshire shaft. Also, the Cottrell Mine to the west was folded into the Berkshire Mine from 1916 to 1934 after only one year of independent operation.
The property description of the Berkshire Mine proper is SW-NW and NW-SW Sec. 6 T42N-R34W, which is the 80 acres between N46º3'43", N46º4'9", W88º36'42", and W88º37'0".
