An iron mine opened in 1910 by the Bates Iron Co., and later operated by Hanna Iron Ore Co. 4 million tons of ore had been shipped by closure in 1947. The mine featured two shafts, the No. 2 and No. 3, and eight major levels to 1850 feet depth.
The property description is W1/2-NW Sec. 19 T43N-R34W, and the Johnson property, N1/2-SW and part of S1/2-SW Sec. 19 T43N-R34W.
