Kobolondo Project; Bulembu Mine

An asbestos mine that produced 25,832 tons in 1984, and was closed in 2001. The mine was initially an open pit and then moved to underground workings.

The mine, at its peak was the fifth largest asbestos mine in the world.

In 2016 His Majesty Ling Mswati III, Ingwenyama granted a mining lease to Kobolondo Mining (KMS) to complete the rehabilitation of the old chrysotile asbestos dumps. The project was known as the Kobolondo Project.

The mine site comprises the former open pit and two tailings dumps.
