The quarry operated by the "Ardennes Coticule" company is the last place in the region still extracting coticule. Used for ages as a whetstone or sharpening stone, coticule from the Lierneux-Vielsalm area has been exported worldwide. This metamorphic quartzitic rock gets its abrasive quality from microscopic spessartine garnets.
Note on the mineral list: The andalusite found here has a greenish tint due to the presence of manganese (see also viridine).
