Torryweiserite

A valid IMA mineral species
This page is currently not sponsored. Click here to sponsor this page.
Formula:
Rh5Ni10S16
Specific Gravity:
5.555 (Calculated)
Crystal System:
Trigonal
Name:
Named in honor of Dr. Thorolf (‘Torry') W. Weiser, a well-known researcher on platinum-group minerals, notably those found in deposits related to the Great Dyke, Zimbabwe and the Bushveld complex, South Africa.
The Rh-dominant analogue of kuvaevite (IMA no. 2020-043). The Ni-dominant analogue of ferrotorryweiserite.

Co-described with oberthürite.

Together with the latter suggested to be formed at ca. 500 °C, under moderate fS2 conditions, via "ordering of Rh-Ni-S nanoparticles in precursor Rh-bearing pentlandite during cooling".
