Name:
The name is for the town of Marathon, Ontario, Canada, after which the Marathon deposit (Coldwell complex) is named.
The first germanide mineral to be discovered and approved (compare palladogermanide). Unique combination of elements (among approved species). New structure type.
Stable in the 550–970 °C range. Probably a physical and/or chemical alteration phase.
Formed at 500–600 °C, under low fS2 and fO2, form Ge-dominant minerals.
