Name:
in honour of Jon Larsen (b. 1959), who played a pivotal role in the urban micrometeorite search.
Formerly here as: 'NMM/L2 (Al,Cu)-alloy'.
Known synthetic analogue (synthetic ordered γ-Al4Cu9).

Seems to be the first new mineral described from a micrometeorite (here: collected from the roof of an industrial building).

For chemical resemblance compare similar alloys: cupalite, khatyrkite, stolperite; and 'Unnamed (Al-Cu Alloy)'.

Due to their extremely small size and intergrowth with other phases, individual jonlarsenite crystals are only characterizable using high-resolution electron microscopy techniques.

General Appearance of Type Material:
elongated spherule approximately 200 µm in diameter, characterised by a dark grey colour and a markedly scoriaceous surface featuring vesicles.

Geological Setting of Type Material:
which was found on 15 August 2022 on the roof of a modern industrial facility near Skedsmokorset, just north of Oslo. The building, operated by Bertel O. Steen Logistics, was constructed in 2017–2018, ensuring a well-constrained temporal window for micrometeorite accumulation.
the formation of jonlarsenite likely reflects high-temperature redox processes that occurred either during parent body alteration or, more plausibly, during peculiar hypervelocity impact events in space.
