Named after the type locality.
Type Locality:
Isostructural with:
Closely related to tyrolite (that contains no sulphate, but carbonate instead). In fact, the space group is identical with and the unit-cell parameters are very close to those of the 2M-polytype of tyrolite (C2/c; a = 54.520(6), b = 5.5638(6), c = 10.4647(10) Å, beta = 96.432(9)°; Krivovichev et al., 2006). The "clinotyrolite" was discredited, as it was shown to be identical with tangdanite.
Note: The originally proposed name "fuxiaotuite" (after Fu Xiaotu, Jeffrey de Fourestier's chinese name) was later withdrawn and the species was then named tangdanite after the type locality (IMA No. 2011-096).

Very similar to the pattern of tyrolite. Calculated data (AMCSD). Comment by Uwe Kolitsch: Ma et al. (2014) list only the following values which totally neglect the high-intensity low-angle d-values: "5.263 (54), 4.782 (100), 4.333 (71), 3.949 (47), 2.976 (46), 2.631 (41), 2.368 (29), 1.744 (24)".
