Named in honor of Mr. Brent Thorne (b. 1951), American pharmacist (chemist), systematic mineral collector/micromounter of Bountiful, Utah, USA, who collected studied material.
Unique combination of elements (as of 2022). The first mineral with dimeric (di)tellurate anions, where octahedral TeO6 groups share their edges.
