Named sazhinite by E.M. Eskova, et al., in 1974, after Nikolai Petrovich Sazhina (2 (14) March 1898, Yekaterinburg, Russian Empire - 23 February 1969, Moscow, USSR), professor of Metallurgy, Mendeleev Moscow Institute of Chemical Engineering and a pioneer in the Russian rare earth industry. The '-(Ce)' suffix was added later to denote the dominant rare earth element (Nickel and Mandarino 1987).

Crystals tabular to thick tabular, striated along their length, to 1.5 cm. As irregular grains and dense, fine-grained aggregates. As disseminations in natrolite and as rims around altered grains of steenstrupine.
