A former Au mine group located in secs. 6, 7 & 8, T6N, R11E, MDM, 0.3 km (0.2 mile) NE of Sutter Creek (town) and 3.4 km (2.1 miles) SE of Amador City, on private land. Discovered in 1851. Owned-Owned by the Crested Corporation (1996). Operated by the Lincoln Gold Mining Co.; and, by the U.S. Energy Corporation (1996). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters. The Lincoln Mine is in section 7. The claims, located in 1851, were worked separately and intermittently until consolidated in 1906. This group includes the former Mahoney, South Mahoney, Lincoln, Steward, Belmont, and Wildman Mines. The Wildman and Mahoney were worked during the period 1910 to 1912 and have been idle since.
Mineralization is hosted in greenstone and slate. The ore body strikes NW and dips 65NE at a thickness of 4.27 meters. There are 2 veins composed of alternating quartz greenstone material varying in thickness from 6 to 14 feet. Slate is associated with amphibolite schist. Free gold is associated with sulfides. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings comprised of 4 shafts: the Wildman at 1,400 feet on a 72 degree incline; the Emerson at 619 feet & vertical; the Mahoney at 1,200 feet on a 62 degree incline; and the Lincoln at 2,000 feet on a 63 degree incline.
Production data are found in: Carlson, D.W. & W.B. Clark (1954).
Combined production of the Wildman Mine and the Mahoney Mine was slightly less than $5,000,000 (period values), while the Lincoln Mine produced $2,200,000 (period values).
Reserve-Resource data are found in: The Mining Record (1994) (April 13, 1994): 105(15): 3.
Reserves and resources information: Type: in-situ; estimate year: 1994; demonstrated reserves: 305,000 metric tons ore; total resources: 305,000 metric tons ore at 14.1 grams/metric ton Au.
