Black Rock Prospect, Portland Prospect
An iron prospect along the West Fork of the Miller River. It exploited spods of magnetite and schorl, with around 250,000 tons of material averaging 20% iron estimated to have been discovered. The upper workings encountered copper sulfides.
Tectonics: Cascade Volcanic Arc
Deposit: Area cut by NW and NE trending joints. Two types of deposits. Magnetite is disseminated in a cliff, in blebs and pods along joint faces, and As veins to 1 ft wide. Copper mineralization is found in a breccia pipe 25 x 60 x 40 ft. Copper mineralization has been tentatively given the informal name of a breccia pipe cu deposit, for which there is no published model. The type of deposit for the magnetite mineralization is unknown
Rock formation(s): Snoqualmie Batholith
